If you are planning to bring a boxer to your family, bear in mind that purebred Boxers should have an AKC registration certificate to ensure against health problems. This is the first thing to consider when choosing a breeder. Remember, there are not only conscientious breeders, but there is an abundance of irresponsible, money-hungry breeders, who deem purity of the breed as the last concern. Let us consider some basic tips that will help you to avoid an irresponsible breeder.
Knowledge is a song of true devotion, as is unerring thirst for knowledge. A good breeder will inevitably ask you all about your experience with Boxers, your home place, family and other pets in your house. He or she may as well ask what you know about the breed, and then, if you ask him questions, he or she will tell you all there is to know about the breed's origin, history and its current condition.
If you see that you have found the proper breeder, do not count on eagerness on his or her part to immediately sell a puppy to you. Breeders will investigate a potential owner for as long as they believe it is necessary before actually deciding to sell you a pup. They care a great deal for the well-being of the breed and they will do their best to see what kind of owner to whom their Boxer is going.
Also, note the facilities where the pups are. Boxers are inside dogs because they are cold prone. There should not be too many pups around the premises. If there are lots of dogs and pups in the yard or they are stored outside or simply leashed, you are probably dealing with a puppy mill, whose goal is just gaining profit. All reputable breeders of Boxers have a spray/neuter policy as well.
A true breeder will never shrink from telling you about possible shortcomings and health concerns. He or she will share with you as much information on that topic as is possible. Conscientious breeders closely work with breed associations strict guidelines and maintain long established contacts with veterinarian services.

Boxers are naturally strong, enduring and resistant to illnesses. However, Boxers cannot have complete protection against hereditary disorders. Boxers often suffer from cardiovascular diseases. Allergic reactions are likely to occur. They are sensitive to temperature fluctuations and therefore are cold prone. Hip dysplasia may appear. Boxers over 8 years of age are likely to develop malignant tumors. Boxers - Pictures - Picture and General Information Links
