Boxers - Pictures - Description

Boxers are medium sized. They have a robust and muscular build of the body. The chest is wide, deep and roomy and the legs are set wide apart. The muzzle of a Boxer is wrinkly and the nose is black. The upper jaw is a bit shorter than the lower one. The lower jaw bends slightly upwards. The ears are set wide apart. Eyes are dark brown, intense and intelligent. The neck is muscular and clearly outlined, without wrinkles. The back is straight and not excessively long. The feet are not big and reminiscent of cat paws. The toes curve and the tail is usually docked and carried high.

Height: Males 22-25 inches, females 21-24 inches.
Weight: Males 60-70 pounds, females 55-65 pounds.
Life Expectancy: 10-15 years

The coat is short and is easy to care for. Boxers come in a variety of colors, ranging between deep shiny red and fawn, also occurring in brindle, with or without white markings. There are also white Boxers, but white coloring is not desirable and, in some cases, judges view it as a disqualifying fault.

Boxers are highly active and lively. If you happen to watch one for several hours, he or she will definitely impress you as a constantly moving and life sparkling creature. These energetic, tough looking dogs are extremely faithful and loving animals. They get on well with other dogs and even cats, to say nothing of their owners and children.

Boxers are self-assured and they frequently exercise dominance. In this respect, they strongly resemble Rottweilers. Therefore, it is very important that all humans in the household assume the highest positions in the dominance hierarchy.

Boxers have an amusing cat-like way of playing. When playful, they move their paws very briskly. They are fond of grabbing and running and will definitely steal a knick-knack if they truly believe they can get away with it. Boxers are protective and suspicious of strangers. However, once Boxers make sure that a stranger is trustworthy, they include him or her in the list of guests with which to play.

Boxers have a ridiculous manner of signaling hunger. When it is time to feed, they may begin to play with the feeding dish. They thrust their paws into it and kick it around like cats. Once they let themselves go, they produce so much noise as to make it impossible for the owner to forget about dinnertime, and this is the common funny way of Boxers to get eventually what they want.
